Viscera
Kiki McGrath × Elizabeth Lindy 2026
The Crit Lab / MAPSpace Cooperative is pleased to present Viscera, a two-person residency exhibition of works on paper, sculpture, and video and performances by Elizabeth Mihaltse Lindy and Kiki McGrath.
on view September 26–October 3
The project considers the body as archive, material, and site of transformation, where acts of making become gestures of devotion and remembrance.
Mihaltse Lindy’s work connects the presence of a body and larger forces that surround and shape it. Human tissue echoes cosmic structures; a paper skin is ingested by the body from which it was cast; the surface of water can hold what is above and below it while reflecting the body back to itself.
McGrath’s The Long Keeping is a linen hairshirt with hand-embroidered text worn directly against the skin. Her charcoal drawings are inspired by anatomical votives and the wallbased text piece, rendered at architectural scale, includes fragments from an ancient Gnostic poem spoken by a female narrator.
Across two weekends, the exhibition will unfold through sculptural installation, video, participatory performances, and a drawing meditation with live sound. The opening and closing events offer different ways of entering the work, creating opportunities for visitors to participate, gather, and experience the exhibition together.

2 – 5pm Opening Reception + Visceral Performances
The opening reception will intersperse Visceral performances by the artists, and invite visitors to enter the work through movement, gathering, and participation.
Kiki McGrath will serve as a scribe, giving participants a space to add their voices alongside those of the historical women inscribed on the wall. Through the act of inscription, an internal voice takes physical form.
Elizabeth Mihaltse Lindy will create a setting for acts of care and responsibility, inviting participants to engage with a material object that becomes a proxy for empathy. The performance asks us to consider what we are willing to hold, support, and care for.

Drawing in Breath Event + Immersive Sound
2 – 3pm Drawing in Breath Event + Immersive Sound
3 – 5pm Closing Reception
The gallery becomes a space for creative nourishment and community through a drawing meditation accompanied by a live sound performance by musician and composer Jane Rigler. Participants are invited to pause, breathe, and make marks with their whole selves, allowing drawing to become an embodied practice of attention and presence.
The gathering begins with aromatic tea and an invitation to settle into the space. Focused breathing and centering create a shared point of arrival, followed by an improvised, slowly unfolding acoustic soundscape with flute. Within this space of breath, sound, and mark-making, participants are invited to listen, draw, and experience their own creative presence without expectation or judgment.
All are welcome. Materials are provided. No drawing experience necessary.
